The Miscarriage Original Canvas

"The Miscarriage" is one of Ibarra's most personal works. At the age of 15 Ibarra suffered a terrible stillborn birth. Being such a young teen influenced a lot of the healing carried now through her artwork. The following poem depicts the art displayed:

the sun cried with me the day you left me
every ounce of my heart ripped from my body
as i felt the seed inside of me die
i was 15
a baby losing a baby in a hospital bed
i questioned God back then
but the fear was so strong it delivered a phone call to my pastor 
“Please pray for me” i cried
“I can only pray that God delivers his will”
and so i went into delivery
in me you built a home for 20 weeks
i pushed you out in 2 minutes 
you were the size of my 2 palms
“i’m sorry” i told you
and i wept as i saw your heartbeat slowly fade
we were both drowning gasping for air
under the wave of death and life
i watched you go
i cried about you last night
you remind me of summer skies
butterflies
and how to appreciate the warmth
it has been 14 years since i planted your grave inside of me
i revisit now and then
to honor the flowers that you left me
i remember your memory
and i do not mourn 
i celebrate
there is life after death
